Kathleen Thompson
In her large and small-scale abstract paintings, Sonoma County artist Kathleen Thompson combines rich, saturated hues, bold gesture and biomorphic forms. She works with metaphor, mythology and personal themes. Thompson has exhibited her work in California, New Mexico, and on the East Coast since the late 1980’s. She studied art at the Santa Fe Art Institute, the Vermont Studio Center, and The School of Visual Arts in New York City, and completed her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute.
"Kathleen Thompson’s large paintings in saturated hues combine bold gestural abstraction with hard-edged biomorphic shapes to create special complexity and layered allusions. These could be considered female-identified abstract expressionism conjoining Shahzia Sikander and large-scale American painting, and decoration and structure."
