Student Artwork
As you find your way to balcony seating at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, we hope you’ll take a few moments to enjoy the fantastic student artwork hanging in the corridor just outside of our administration offices. This student art exhibit provides an opportunity for some of our community’s most talented young artists to share a little insight into the creative voice of the next generation. And, while showcasing student talent, the exhibit also demonstrates the importance of providing art classes in our schools.
On Exhibit Now:
Color & Contour
by Wright Charter School
Art Teacher: Laura Hoffman
Homeroom Teachers: Ms. Gooch & Mrs. Graves
Students at Wright Charter School were given a wonderful opportunity this year to work with local artist Laura Hoffman, who shared her outstanding artistic ability and infectious love of art history with the school’s 4th through 7th graders. On display now are two projects that resulted from the students’ work.
Colorful Cats was inspired by the expressionism work of Swiss painter Paul Klee. Students learned how to make a contour line (by never picking up their pencils while drawing) and then filled in their drawings with vibrant colors. Through this project, students gained a better understanding of abstract art, as well as Jazz, which served as the audio inspiration for the project.

Self Portraits was inspired by the work of renowned artist Frida Kahlo. Students learned about the famous Mexican painter, and her colorful, yet painful life. Students learned technical skills to sketch facial proportions and mixed water color paints to achieve skin colors. They also used symbolism in the backgrounds of their paintings to represent events or objects that are important to them.
