Summary
The Director of Finance is responsible for the leadership of the Luther Burbank Memorial Foundation’s (dba Wells Fargo Center for the Arts) financial operations as related to its mission and vision as a community-based, non-profit performing arts center committed to enriching, educating and entertaining the people of California’s North Bay region and beyond. The Director of Finance is accountable for leading the Finance team in managing the Center’s financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements, payroll systems and processes, internal controls, ongoing financial modeling and annual budget plan. The Director oversees the health, stability, viability, growth, and protection of the Center’s finances. The position works collaboratively with the Board of Directors and senior leadership team.
The Director performs the following duties personally or oversees their execution through the department’s staff.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and oversees the organization's financial plans, financial operations and accounting practices based on GAAP; ensures transparent financial information and ethical behavior standards.
- Manages cash flow, borrowing of funds and endowment account with oversight from the Executive Director and/or Treasurer.
- Develops and implements goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, fiscal audit and payroll.
- Manages the financial portion of capital projects with assistance from the Executive Director and the Director of Operations.
- Works with department directors to prepare annual budget; prepares budget projections during fiscal year for department directors.
- Prepares and leads monthly Finance Committee meetings.
- Manages general liability insurance and renewal process and ensures appropriate coverage is maintained.
- Directs, supervises and participates in the preparation and maintenance of various financial statements and reports including the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, revenue distribution/operating expenses, fixed asset schedule/depreciation, property statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and show/event reconciliations.
- Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls and directs preparation and execution of external fiscal audit with outside CPA firm.
- Establishes system controls for financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
- Works with other staff leadership to provide management support in long-range planning, strategic initiatives, and on-going analysis and evaluation of major decisions concerning the organization.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises three employees in the Finance Department; Accounts Payable Clerk, AR/Payroll Manager and Accounting Clerk. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university with an emphasis in business accounting; and five plus years related accounting experience at the Director level. At least three years of previous supervisory experience.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains Accounting software; Internet software; Paychex Payroll systems; MS Excel and Word.

- Successful annual financial audit resulting in an “Unqualified Opinion" by the auditors’ report.
- Ability to instill throughout the organization a greater level of understanding and transparency of the Center’s finances.
- Increased stability and viability of the organizational finances that moves the Center towards achieving the five-year deficit reduction plan.
- Leadership that protects the assets of the organization, resulting in financial transparency and integrity.
