Student Artwork
As you find your way to balcony seating at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, we hope you’ll take a few moments to enjoy the fantastic student artwork hanging in the corridor just outside of our administration offices. This student art exhibit provides an opportunity for some of our community’s most talented young artists to share a little insight into the creative voice of the next generation. And, while showcasing student talent, the exhibit also demonstrates the importance of providing art classes in our schools.
On Exhibit Now:
Primary Is Secondary
Teacher: Tracy Uwins
We are pleased to exhibit two different art projects from Tracy Uwins’ 5th grade students at Evergreen Elementary School in Rohnert Park. Using the primary colors—blue, red, and yellow—students created projects in warm and cool secondary colors. Line, shape, and color were used in different ways to create bold shapes and patterns.
Classified Design
Classified advertisements from newspapers were used as the base for creating these images. Using the sixelements of design, students used rulers to draw straight lines and the ads themselves as guidelines to create a variety of shapes. Watercolors were used to paint each of the shapes and crayons were utilized to incorporate detail.
Optical Illusion Watercolor
Lines and color create a dramatic optical illusion in this project. First, students created three circles and divided them. Next, they used rulers to draw straight lines around the circles. Students then explored the use of warm and cool colors, learning that cool colors tend to recede while warm colors tend to advance. Students had the choice to use warm or cool colors for the circles and then used the opposite for the exterior lines.
In both projects, objectives from the State Adopted Standards for California were utilized. Thus, students from this 5th grade class learned standards from mathematics and standards in art to complete all of these excellent projects.
