Congratulations and Thanks for Fiesta 2012!

¡Muchas Gracias…Thank You Very Much!

A rainbow of color, amazing foods and the sites and sounds of Mexican culture filled the air for the third annual Fiesta de Independencia hosted Saturday, September 15th by the Latino Advisory Council of Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. The FREE event celebrating Sonoma County’s Latino community began with the popular music of Mariachi Barragan. More than 40 community vendors shared authentic foods, crafts, products and services. Four stage performances featured traditional and contemporary music and dance throughout the day. Deputy Consul Enrique Maldonado from the Mexican Consulate of San Francisco presented the official El Grito and Juan Barragán gave the keynote address. State historical and cultural booths featured a wealth of information, while Sonoma County’s free bookmobile handed out books to all who wanted them. A low rider car show and a tasty salsa competition added fun and spice to the day. Special congratulations go to La Voz newspaper and Catholic Charities of the diocese of Santa Rosa, winners of this year’s Community Leadership Awards presented by County Supervisor Efren Carrillo. Dozens of community volunteers from Elsie Allen High School, Community Action Partnership, the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department, local media partners and many other community organizations helped to make the day possible with no admission fee, serving over 3,000 children and adults!
